Travelling
solo (as a girl or a boy) can sometimes be pretty scary, though liberating. I
have done it before and I still love it. But, I also love exploring new places
along side my boyfriend. There is nothing to be ashamed of if you prefer
travelling with your loved one. Sharing your adventures with your other half
can also be amazing. It builds ones character, makes your relationship
stronger, and helps you discover places you would never though existed before.
Here are a few tips I have learned along the way.
1.
Compromise
Whether it is at home or abroad, compromising is part of any healthy
relationship. During your planning and the travel, you both should take
decisions together and have equals fun. For example, if one wants to visit a
certain place and the other don't, make sure the other person gets to visit
another place he or she really wanted to see. Compromise can also be associated
with money. Don't get yourselves in debt because you want to travel in luxury.
If one really wants to go to a 5-star hotel, how about the next day you go to a
hostel or do camping?
2. Trust
Even though this might seem a bit weird since you are travelling together,
trust is an important thing. One of you might be a bit more of an adventurer
while the other might not like going off the beaten path. Trusting one and
another abilities and feelings will save you from embarrassing situations and
even from a few fights.
3. Listen
We all are different, and each individuals in a relationship is no exception. That
is the reason why you should listen to each other opinion and needs. Starting
by planning the trip in itself, you should pick a destination both of you are
excited to go to. You also should set a budget based on the lower income, so
that money doesn't come as an issue. Also, for the ladies travelling with their
boyfriend, don't forget about the food. If one says he or she needs something
(food, bathroom, rest, etc.) listen to him/her.
4. Talk
As much as I would like to tell you the contrary; there will be conflicts
between both of you. It is unfortunately part of every couple's trips.
Travelling can become quite stressful and, thus, bring the worst of ourselves.
But you can make it less uncomfortable by talking it out. Having a discussion
or simply speaking out when something is not to your liking can spare you a few
headaches. A new culture can also be the opportunity to talk about future
projects or taboo subjects. Make sure both opinions have been said for you to
have a wonderful adventure.
5. Enjoy
All those beautiful tips can help make the travel easier, but it would be no
fun if you don't enjoy each other's company. Don't forget that you are
travelling with your significant other and that this trip was made for both of
you to relax. You might not be travelling every day of your life, so take the
time to savour those moments together.
I must say,
the first time I went on a trip with my boyfriend, we ended up arguing all the
time. We came back completely exhausted, but learned from it. It made our
relation stronger and we understood more about each others' expectations and
personalities. Travelling with your loved one can be a challenge, but once you
have set your boundaries, he or she can be your best travel companion. Remember
that no matter what, you love each others.
Enjoy,
